The location of the umbilicus of the Korean Women.
The umbilicus is supposed to be located at the midst between the tip of the ensiform and the upper margin of the symphysis pubis and it is being commonly used as a marker of indicating the height of the fundus uteri by obstetricians in determining the duration of ´pregnancy.
In case of deviation of the position of the umbilicus, it is not reasonable to utilize it as a marker in the obstetrical field. In order to clearify the anatomical position of the umbilicus the arbitrarily chosen 500 Korean women were biometrically examined and the following results were obtained,
1) The distance between the tip of the ensiform and the umbilicus is longer than that between the umbilicus and the upper margin of the symphysis pubis in. majority, ..The distance between the. tip
of the ensiform and umbilicus is lo anger than that between the umbilicus and symphysis pubis in, 69.4%; the former shorter than the latter in 21%, the same length in 9.6%.
2) The distance between the umbilicus and the left & right ant, sup, iliac spines were almost same and showed same type of distribution.
3) There were 9 cases(l, 8%) in which the umbilicus located. in the midst between . the tip. of.:the´ ensiform and the symphysis pubis and at the same distance from both the ant, sup, iliac spines.
There were only 5 cases(1%) in which the umbilicus located,at the same distance from the ensiform, .: symphysis pubis and both the ant, sup, iliac spines.
4) The average distance between the left & right ant, sup. iliac spines is 22,9 cm. The distribution showed a not normal, but symmetrical histogram concentrating to the median.
5) The distance between the ensiforrn and the symphysis pubis and that between umbilicus and ant, sup, iliac spines showed close correlation to the body height, The distance between both the spines showed almost no correlation to it.
6) The average body height was 163.4 cm.
7) The average sitting height was 141.6 cm,
